A Night of Voices Unbound
A powerful evening celebrating Black literature, creative expression, community and the freedom to read.
Unbound: Freedom to Read brought together authors, poets, writers, artists, educators, advocates, and community members for an inspiring evening celebrating Black literature, culture, creativity, and freedom of expression. Held at Innovation Depot in Birmingham, the event featured powerful spoken-word presentations, live music, special performances by Deirdre Gaddis and saxophonist Pedro Moore, and an engaging atmosphere hosted by Lady Woo with music by Beats by Chocolate. Guests connected through meaningful conversations, shared experiences, and a collective appreciation for the stories and voices that have shaped generations. More than an evening of entertainment, Unbound created a welcoming space to raise awareness about censorship, recognize the importance of preserving Black history, and encourage the community to protect everyone’s freedom to read, learn, speak, and express themselves.
